Sunday, November 5th, 2023.- Sofía García made history by giving Paraguay its first gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, winning the golf competition at the Prince of Wales Country Club.

García dominated the competition from start to finish. She took the lead on the first day, extended her lead over the next 18 holes, had the title practically secured after the third round, and today, in the final round, despite not having her best day, she closed her performance in the Chilean capital with a literal golden touch.

The Paraguayan golfer recorded 72 strokes today, even par for the course, for a total of -14. The silver medal went to the Colombian María José Uribe with -10, while the bronze was claimed by the Canadian Alena Sharp with -7.

Further down the leaderboard were the Colombian Valery Plata with -6 and the Argentine Magdalena Simmermacher with -1.

The best performance in the final 18 holes came from the Colombian Uribe, who finished with -4. Paraguayan García finished eighth with an even par score, but her lead was so substantial that her gold medal was never in jeopardy.
