Table Tennis: The United States Secures The Female's Team Gold

The northern team defeated Puerto Rico 3-1 in the cumulative matches and managed to secure the gold medal on the last day of competition.

Sunday, November 5th, 2023.- The United States confirmed its supremacy in table tennis, defeating Puerto Rico 3-1 in the female's team final at the series held at the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico in the Ñuñoa commune. 

After the U.S. team won the first match with scores of 11-4/11-7/11-9 (3-0 final), Puerto Rico managed to equalize the series with a spectacular comeback by Adriana Díaz. The athlete was down two sets but overcame to secure the first point for her country with scores of 11-7/11-4/12-10/11-9/12-10 (3-2 final). 

However, the United States mounted a comeback in the following match, and Rachel Sung defeated Brianna Burgos with scores of 11-6/11-9/14-12/11-1 (3-1 final), putting the match at 2-1. Therefore, a fourth match was necessary, in which Amy Wang defeated Adriana Díaz in a closely contested five-set game with scores of 11-7/11-4/11-6/11-8/16-14 (3-2 final). 

It's worth noting that the only category in table tennis that has qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympics is mixed doubles, which offers two available slots, to be awarded to the finalist pairs in the event.
