United States wins javelin and the athletics medal tally of Santiago 2023

Curtis Thompson, with a throw of 79.65 meters, won the last event in the Santiago 2023 athletics program and solidified his country's position as the most successful, with eight gold medals, surpassing Brazil and Cuba, both with seven.

Saturday 4th November 2023.- The United States champion and world finalist, Curtis Thompson, was crowned the javelin champion at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games with a throw of 79.65 meters.

With this victory in the event that concluded the athletics competition in this edition of the continental event, the United States topped the specific medal table with eight golds, in addition to five silvers and 12 bronzes, for a total of 25 medals.

Behind the Americans were Brazil and Cuba, both with seven victories.

The silver medal in the javelin went to the current South American champion and former Pan American junior medalist, Brazilian Pedro Henrique Nunes, who threw 78.45 meters.

Leslain Baird of Guyana took home the bronze medal with a successful attempt of 78.23 meters. With this medal, the South American country totaled three medals in athletics (gold in the 100 meters, plus bronze in the men's 100 meters and javelin), a more than noteworthy performance.

Chilean Francisco Javier Muse finished in eleventh place in the javelin with a throw of 67.56 meters.
