Saturday 4th November 2023.- The male's pole vault event crowned American Matthew Ludwig with the Pan American gold medal on Saturday, in the closing day of athletics held in front of 40,000 people at the Estadio Nacional.

The winner, with a leap of 5.55 meters, came to Santiago 2023 with the best previous record, along with the history of being ranked 26th in the world rankings and finishing 19th in the last Olympic Games at Tokyo 2020 among 30 competitors, with the Swedish athlete Armand Duplantis as the new owner of the gold medal.

Ludwig attempted to break his personal record with attempts at 5.60 and 5.65 meters, but without success.

The silver medal went to the Argentinian Germán Chiaraviglio, who recorded a jump of 5.50 meters, while the bronze went to the Mexican Jorge Luna, with a mark of 5.40 meters.

Chile's representative, Guillermo Correa, finished in fourth place with the same mark as the Mexican Luna but failed in his fifth attempt at 5.40 meters, which allowed the North American to step onto the last step of the podium.
