Cuba Dominates Female's 4x400 Despite Dominican Republic's Late Surge

Cuba wins gold in the final female's relay of the Santiago 2023 program, holding off Marilaidy Paulino's strong finish. Brazil secures the bronze.

Saturday 4th November 2023.- The Cuban 4x400 relay team secured the gold medal at the Pan American Games, taking the lead halfway through the race and finishing with a time of 3'33''15.

This marked the seventh victory for the Cuban team in Santiago 2023 athletics, positioning them at the top of the specific medal table alongside the United States.

The Dominican Republic's quartet claimed second place (3'34''27), thanks to Marileidy Paulino's incredible sprint, which rewarded her country with a medal. Before her run, the Dominican Republic was in fourth place.

Brazil earned the bronze medal (3'34''80) after a fierce competition with the United States during the first half of the race. The American team, despite a strong start, couldn't maintain the pace and finished in fifth place (3'35''91), overtaken by Ecuador (3'35''76) in the final stretch, who achieved their best season record.

Chile's team finished in the last place (3'37''00) and was never able to contend for the lead throughout the race.
