Bronze for Chile in Male's Handball

The local team narrowly defeated the United States 28-27, securing a place on the podium for the fourth consecutive Pan American Games.

Saturday 4th November 2023.- The Chilean male's handball team secured the bronze medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games. In a match held at the Gimnasio Polideportivo de Viña del Mar, 100 kilometers from the capital, the home team narrowly defeated the United States with a score of 28-27.

Despite the medal, the local septet couldn't replicate their performance from Lima 2019, where they secured second place after losing the final to Argentina.

Rodrigo Salinas and Daniel Ayala, with five goals each, were Chile's top scorers, followed by Esteban Salinas, Francisco Ahumada, and Emil Feuchtman, who announced his retirement from the national team after this continental tournament, each contributing with four goals.

Among the North Americans, the top performers of the day were Sean Corning with seven goals and Samuel Hoddersen with six.

The United States had the chance to equalize the match in the last possession but missed their shot.

This marks the fourth consecutive occasion that Chile has claimed a spot on the Pan American podium in male's handball. They finished third in Guadalajara 2011 and Toronto 2015, and second in Lima 2019.

The final, scheduled for 7:30 p.m. local time, will face off Brazil and Argentina.
