Mexico and Puerto Rico win gold in archery

Both countries claimed gold on the podium in the women's and men's individual compound events.

Saturday, November 4th, 2023.- Mexico and Puerto Rico ended this Saturday's archery events at Santiago 2023 on a high note, claiming the gold medals in the female's and male's individual compound competitions.

For the Mexican team, it was Dafne Quintero who celebrated by defeating the American Alexis Ruiz 147-145 in the final, securing Mexico's 48th gold medal at these Pan American Games.

Happy after her victory, Quintero analyzed her performance. "I put in a lot of effort. I focused a lot on these Pan American Games. I'm very happy because I didn't expect the gold. I set out to give my best, no matter what the outcome would be. Sometimes it's key to come without expectations and enjoy the competition. Of course, I wanted to leave with something, but I never imagined it would be gold. I'm truly delighted," she said.

On the Puerto Rican side, it was Jean Pizarro who celebrated after narrowly defeating the American Sawye Sullivan 145-144, earning the second gold medal for the Caribbean.

In the bronze medal matches, both in the female's and male's categories, Colombia performed strongly, with Alejandra Usquiano defeating her compatriot Sara López and Jagdeep Singh prevailing over the Salvadoran Roberto Hernández.
