Saturday 4th November 2023.- Sara López, the world's best archer, fell victim to a day full of surprises in the archery competition at the 2023 Pan American Games. The Parque Peñalolén witnessed her elimination in the individual compound archery semifinals, in a closely contested match against Mexican archer Dafne Quintero.
The Mexican representative, ranked tenth in the world, concluded her performance with two perfect games and handed López a tough defeat with a score of 149 to 146. López was a strong contender for the gold medal in the discipline. As a result, Quintero will compete for the regional title against the American archer Alexa Ruiz, who defeated the other Colombian competitor, Alejandra Usquiano, with a score of 145 to 144.
In the male's individual compound archery, Puerto Rican archer Jean Pizarro, ranked 14th in the world, defeated Salvadoran archer Roberto Hernández by a score of 144-141 and advanced to the final against Sawyer Sullivan, who won a shootout against the Colombian archer Jagdeep Singh after a tie with a score of 144-144.
The finals will take place starting at 4:00 p.m.local time this Saturday.
