Golf: Colombian Muñoz and Mexican Ancer Share the Lead

With the final 18 holes to go, Abraham Ancer from Mexico and Juan Carlos Muñoz from Colombia lead with -16, while Chilean players Niemann and Pereira are far from the medal race. In the female's category, Paraguayan Sofia García continues to hold a solid lead.

Saturday 4th November 2023.- The battle for the gold in the final day of golf at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games promises to be very exciting. This is because Mexican Abraham Ancer and Colombian Juan Carlos Muñoz are tied for the first place heading into the final day on Sunday, while Canadian Etienne Papineau is just one stroke behind.

Unfortunately for Chilean fans, their two representatives, Joaquín Niemann and Guillermo Pereira, are far behind, and something very unexpected would have to happen for them to reach the podium at the Prince of Wales Country Club.

After the third round played on Saturday, Ancer and Muñoz share the lead with -16, followed by Papineau with -15. Further back are José Toledo (Team of Independent Athletes) with -12, Dylan Menante (United States) with -11, José Pablo Rolz (Team of Independent Athletes), and Carlos Ortiz (Mexico) with -10. Fabrizio Zanotti (Paraguay), Justin Hastings (Cayman Islands), and Ricardo Celia (Colombia) are all at -9.

The Chilean players are only at the 11th position, both with -8, far from the medal positions. This comes after a very disappointing third round, with Niemann finishing at -1 and Pereira at even par.

The best performance of the day was by Hastings with -9, followed by Celia with -8, and Ancer with -7.

In the female's category, Paraguayan Sofia García practically has the gold in her hands after extending her lead over her pursuers: she now leads with -14, followed by Colombian players Valery Plata and María Uribe with -7 and -6, respectively, and Canadian Alena Sharp with -5.

The final round for both male and female will take place on Sunday starting at 8:00 a.m. local time.
