Brazil Takes Gold in Triathlon Relay Mixed

The South American quartet narrowly defeated the United States and Canada, while Chile finished eighth. Brazilian Miguel Lopes Hidalgo secured his second individual gold after winning the male's triathlon two days ago.

Saturday, November 4th, 2023.- In a tightly contested battle with the United States, Brazil claimed the gold medal in the triathlon mixed relay held on Saturday in Viña del Mar. The race covered a distance of 300 meters of swimming, 6 kilometers of cycling, and 1.6 kilometers of running for each team member.

The silver medal went to the United States, and the bronze to Canada, with Chile finishing eighth among the 11 participating teams.

The Brazilian quartet, consisting of Miguel Lopes Hidalgo, Djenyfer Arnold, Manoel Messias, and Vittoria Lopes de Mello, completed the course in 1 hour, 15 minutes, and 8 seconds. The American team of Seth Rider, Erika Ackerlund, Mathhew McElroy, and Virginia Sereno finished in second place with a time of 1:15:2. Canada's team of Brock Hoel, Emy Legault, Liam Donnelly, and Dominika Jamnicky secured third place with a time of 1:15:36.

Lopes Hidalgo had won the individual male's triathlon two days earlier, marking his second gold medal at Santiago 2023. Meanwhile, McElroy, who finished second in that race, earned another silver medal.

Further down the rankings were Ecuador, Venezuela, Colombia, Chile, Cuba, Argentina, and the Team of Independent Athletes.

The Chilean team consisted of Diego Moya, Dominga Jacome, Gaspar Riveros, and Catalina Salazar.
