Colombian Pájaro secures the first gold in Speed Skating

Geiny Pájaro claimed the top spot in the female's 200-meter sprint race. The silver medal went to El Salvador's Ivonne Nochez, and the bronze to American Erin Jackson. Chilean Romina Pérez finished eighth.

Saturday, November 4th, 2023.- Colombian Geiny Pájaro clinched the first gold medal in speed skating competitions, winning the female's 200-meter sprint event.

Pájaro holds the world record with a time of 18.531 seconds, and at the Patinófromo in Estadio Nacional, she confirmed her favoritism by securing victory in 18.624 seconds.

The silver medal went to El Salvador's Ivonne Nochez, with a time of 18.873, and the bronze to American skater Erin Jackson, who finished in 18.909 seconds.

Falling just short of the podium were María Loreo Arias from Ecuador (18.957) and fifth-placed Dalía Soberanis from the Team of Independent Athletes, finishing in 19.105.

Chilean athlete Pérez ended up in eighth place with a time of 19.534.
