Skater Emanuelle Silva secures Chile's 10th gold

The national athlete claimed victory in the male's 200-meter sprint race, surpassing Mexican Jorge Luis Martínez (silver) and Colombian Andrés Jiménez (bronze).

Saturday, November 4th, 2023.- In the kickoff of the speed skating competitions, Emanuelle Silva delivered Chile its tenth gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

The local skater clinched the male's 200-meter sprint event to the delight of the crowd at the Patinódromo in Estadio Nacional.

Silva competed in the final heat, and with a time of 17.562 seconds, he outperformed Mexican Jorge Luis Martínez, who recorded 17.566. The bronze medal went to Colombian Andrés Jiménez, who finished in 17.597 seconds.

Further down the rankings were Mexican Guilherme Abel Rocha (17.765), Argentine Nahuel Schelling (18.075), and Ecuadorian Renato Carchi (18.348).

The speed skating competitions will continue this afternoon with male’s and female’s 1,000-meter sprint, which will promptly award medals, along with the qualifications for the male's and female's 500m+ distance events.
