Agustín Vernice excells in Kayak and adds a gold medal for Argentina

The prominent Argentinian champion, double medalist at Lima 2019, and eighth at the Olympic Games dominated the final of the K1 1000m at Laguna Grande de San Pedro de La Paz.

Saturday, November 4th, 2023.- Argentina added its sixth gold medal at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, thanks to one of the most accomplished competitors in the regional scene. It’s about Agustín Vernice, a double gold medalist in canoeing at Lima 2019, who successfully defended his title in the K1 1000m with a brilliant race at Laguna Grande de San Pedro de La Paz.

The kayak of the Olympic finalist had no rivals on the waters of the Biobío, delivering a performance that had him leading practically from start to finish and recording a time of 3:29.73 to claim the gold medal.

In second place was the American Jonas Ecker, nearly five seconds behind, but in the sprint, he prevented an Argentine one-two, leaving the bronze medal 5.76 seconds behind Valentín Rossi.

This Saturday will mark the conclusion of nine days of competition at the Laguna Grande de San Pedro de La Paz venue, which hosted rowing and canoeing in a setting considered a natural sanctuary and an area of environmental protection.
