Friday, November 3rd, 2023.- The fifteenth day of official competitions at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games was highlighted by the outstanding performance of the Cuban athletes in athletics. They secured five medals on this day: two gold (male's high jump and male's triple jump), one silver (female's 1,500 meters), and two bronze (male's 400 meters hurdles and male's triple jump).
The Cuban athletics team has now amassed a total of 15 medals in Santiago 2023, including five gold, six silver, and four bronze medals, showcasing a highly distinguished participation. They secured titles in events like male's high jump, male's triple jump, female's 100 meters sprint, female's 4x100 meters relay, and male's triple jump.
As a result, they have pulled ahead of Colombia in the battle for the fifth position in the medal standings. Cuba has 23 gold medals among its 58 total medals, while their competitors have 18 gold medals (out of 64 medals in total).
On this Friday, medals were awarded in various sports, including canoeing, where Canada excelled with victories in the female's K1, male's K2, and male's C2 in the 500m events. In equestrian, the United States claimed the top spot in the individual jumping competition. In female's football, Mexico became the champions by defeating Chile. In rhythmic gymnastics, Brazil secured the gold in all three disciplines, and in field hockey, Argentina celebrated a victory over Chile.
With just two days left until the conclusion of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, the medal standings are led by the United States with 234 total medals (100 gold, 60 silver, 74 bronze). Brazil is in second place with 165 medals (56 gold, 59 silver, 50 bronze), followed by Mexico in third with 113 medals (42 gold, 27 silver, 44 bronze). Canada is in fourth place with 139 medals (40 gold, 44 silver, 55 bronze), and Cuba is in fifth place with 58 medals (23 gold, 19 silver, 16 bronze). The host country, Chile, added a gold in karate and currently holds the seventh position with 51 medals (9 gold, 23 silver, 19 bronze).
