Flor Ruiz Wins Pan American Gold in Javelin Throw

With a throw of 63.10 meters on her first attempt, the Colombian secured victory in the event held at a packed Estadio Nacional.

Friday, November 3rd, 2023.- Flor Denis Ruiz, a Colombian javelin thrower and silver medalist at the recent World Athletics Championships at Budapest, won the Pan American gold at Santiago 2023 with a distance of 63.10 meters.

The 32-year-old athlete from Cali showcased her favoritism in a packed Estadio Nacional, which she earned at Hungary in August. On that occasion, she recorded a mark of 65.47 meters, which was also a record in the Americas and secured her spot for Paris 2024.

This time, her throw was 63.10 meters on her first attempt.

On the podium, along with Ruiz, were Bahamian Rhema Otabor (60.54 meters), who finished 15th in Budapest 2023, and American Madelyn Harris (60.06).

Ruiz is currently ranked ninth in the world. Furthermore, she was the first athlete from her country to step onto the podium at a global event, and with the confidence she has gained this season, she becomes a strong contender for a medal in Paris 2024.
