Colombia Wins Gold and Strengthens Its Medal Standings Thanks to Squash

The Colombian team won in male's and female's doubles, bringing their total gold medals to 18 in Santiago 2023.

Friday, November 3rd, 2023.- Colombia continues to add medals at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, winning two more golds in squash by securing the finals of male's and female's doubles at the Centro Deportivo de las Raquetas at Estadio Nacional.

The South Americans first triumphed in the female's event, thanks to the excellent teamwork of Laura Tovar and Lucía Bautista, who defeated the American pair of Amanda Sobhy and Olivia Fiechter in the final with scores of 11-8, 3-11, and 11-9.

On the male's side, the victors were Juan Vargas and Ronald Palomino, a duo that overcame the Mexican pair of Leonel Cárdenas and César Salazar with scores of 9-11, 11-3, and 11-3.

As for the mixed doubles, the gold medals were claimed by Americans Olivia Blatchford and Timothy Brownell, who prevailed against the Canadian pair of Nicole Bunyan and George Crowne with scores of 11-6, 10-11, and 11-6.

With these medals, Colombia solidifies its position in the sixth place on the Santiago 2023 medal table, accumulating a total of 64 medals, including 18 gold, 26 silver, and 20 bronze. Currently, they are behind Cuba with 22 gold medals but maintain a lead over Chile's 9 gold medals.
