Canada secures bronze in male's field hockey

In a nail-biting finish, the Canadians defeated the United States and clinched the bronze medal.

Friday, November 3rd, 2023.- Canada secured the bronze medal in male's field hockey by defeating the United States 3-2 in a thrilling final at the Sports Center within the National Stadium.

The Canadians, who hadn't competed for bronze since Cali 1971 as they had always been in the gold medal match, claimed the third spot on the podium in Santiago 2023.

Goals from Oliver Scholfied, Brendan Guraliuk from a short corner, and Fin Boothroyd in open play ensured the victory for the Canadians.

Aki Kaeppeler and Christian Deangelis scored for the Americans, and in the final play of the match, they missed a chance under the goal that could have equalized the score and taken the game to a penalty shootout.

Canada took the bronze, leaving the United States without medals in male's field hockey, a sport in which they had won this same medal in Lima 2019.
