Golf: Colombian Sebastián Muñoz Takes the Lead

The South American golfer completed the second round with six strokes under par and now stands at the top with -12. Chilean golfers Guillermo Pereira (-8) and Joaquín Niemann (-7) are in sixth and eighth place, respectively. In the female's category, Paraguayan Sofía García remains in the lead.

Friday, November 3rd, 2023.- Colombian Sebastián Muñoz has taken the lead in the golf competition at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games after the second 18-hole round at the Prince of Wales Country Club. Meanwhile, Chilean golfers Guillermo Pereira and Joaquín Niemann are in sixth and eighth place, respectively.

In the female's category, Paraguayan golfer Sofía García has maintained her position in first place with a five-stroke lead over her closest competitors.

Muñoz repeated his Thursday round with 66 strokes (-6), bringing his total to -12 after 36 holes. Canadian golfer Etienne Papineau, who was the leader after the first day, is now in second place with a total of -11 after registering -2 in the second round.

The best score of the day was recorded by Mexican golfer Carlos Ortiz (-8), allowing him to secure third place alongside his compatriots Abraham Ancer (-5) and Dylan Menante (-3). All three have a total of -9.

Further back, in sixth place, are Chilean golfer Guillermo Pereira and Paraguayan golfer Fabrizio Zanotti, both with a score of -8. In eighth place, we have Chilean golfer Joaquín Niemann and José Toledo from the Independent Athletes Team, both with a score of -7.

The two local golfers had different experiences. Pereira repeated his initial round with -4, while Niemann had to recover from a poor start, finishing with -2. After the first three holes, Niemann was at +3 due to a bogey and a double bogey, but he gradually improved and finished the round with three consecutive birdies, which kept him in contention for the final 36 holes.

In the female's category, Paraguayan golfer Sofía García maintained a solid lead. With a round of 70 strokes (-2), she now has a total score of -9, giving her a five-stroke advantage over her closest competitors, Colombian golfer Valery Plata and Canadian golfer Alena Sharp, both with a score of -4.

The female's scores were lower than on Thursday, with García, Plata, and American golfer Rachel Heck all performing well with scores of -2.
