United States aims for two gold medals in Karate

American Ariel Torres and Venezuelan Cleiver Leocadio will compete for gold in the male's individual kata, while Colombian Valentina Zapata and American Sakura Kokumai will do the same in the female's category.

Friday, November 3rd, 2023.- Representatives from the United States, Ariel Torres and Sakura Kokumai, have advanced to the finals in both male's and female's individual karate kata, which will be held this afternoon at the Centro de Deportes de Contacto at Estadio Nacional.

Kokumai will face Colombia's Valentina Zapata in the individual gold medal match at 4:16 p.m. today, while Ariel Torres will do the same against Venezuela's Cleiver Leocadio, starting at 4:40 p.m.

Karate kata is a discipline that resembles an exhibition of combat movements without physical confrontation with the opponent, unlike all other contact sports, and is individually scored by judges.

Chile's Isidora Gallo has secured her spot in the bronze medal match against Canada's Claudia Laos Loo, which will take place at 4:00 p.m. today.
