Male Volleyball: The Dominican Republic defeated Chile and Aims for Fifth Place

In a closely contested five-set match, the host team was defeated by the Central American squad and will now have to compete for seventh place against the loser of the match between Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Friday, November 3rd, 2023.- Once again, in a packed Arena Parque O'Higgins, as has been the trend in the volleyball competitions at the Pan American Games, the Dominican Republic national team defeated the host team, winning three sets to two.

Despite Chile winning the first set 22-15, the Caribbean team rallied and secured the second set with a score of 25-19. Chile took the lead again in the third set, leaving them with a comfortable advantage for the fourth.

However, the Dominicans did not give up and managed to win the fourth set with a tight score of 26-14. In the final set, after a hard-fought battle lasting two hours and nine minutes, the Dominican Republic emerged victorious with a score of 16-14, setting them up for a chance at fifth place.

With this result, the Dominican team will play their final match against the team that emerges victorious from the match between Mexico and Puerto Rico. Meanwhile, Chile will compete for seventh place against the team that loses in the aforementioned match.

The male volleyball action for this Friday continues with the match between Mexico and Puerto Rico (1:30 p.m.), as well as the semifinals featuring Argentina vs. Cuba (5:30 p.m.) and Brazil vs. Colombia (8:30 p.m.)
