Friday, November 3rd, 2023.- Brazil is making a strong impact in rhythmic gymnastics and has dashed the hopes of the United States to replicate their last performance at the Pan American Games. With Bárbara Domingos as their standard-bearer, the South American representative secured another one-two finish, as they had previously done in the hoop, solidifying their position as the undisputed leader in rhythmic gymnastics at Santiago 2023.
With nearly two thousand spectators at the Centro de Deportes Colectivos at the Estadio Nacional, Domingos delivered her best performance in the ball routine with a score of 33.000, guaranteeing the gold medal, which was their second of the day following the silver in the hoop.
In second place, Geovanna Santos da Silva, who concluded her routine with tears amid the applause of the local audience and the numerous Brazilian fans, secured the second position in the qualifiers. She displaced the favorite, Evita Griskenas from the United States, who ended up in third place.
With these results, Brazil has accumulated four gold medals in rhythmic gymnastics, while the American team has had a lackluster performance with one silver and four bronzes.
