Mexico Secures Silver in Male's and Female's Frontball Basque Pelota

Mexican representatives dominated the semifinals in the frontball category. In the male's competition, David Álvarez will face Cuban Cristián Abreu, while in the female's final, Itzel Reyes will compete against Uruguayan Leonella Acosta.

Friday, November 3rd, 2023.- Mexico secured the silver medal in pelota vasca, frontball category, in both male's and female's divisions, as their representatives David Álvarez and Itzel Reyes won their respective semifinals held this morning at the Estadio Español de Santiago.

The world's number one-ranked player, David Álvarez, defeated Brazilian Filipe Otheguy 2-0 in the early hours and advanced to the gold medal match, which will take place tomorrow, Saturday, against Cuban Cristián Abreu, who defeated Argentine Nicolás Comás in the second match.

In the female's division, Itzel Reyes won 2-0 against Cuban Yalieska Leoncio and will face Uruguayan Leonella Acosta in the final, who defeated Argentine Micaela Cortez by the same score.

"We struggled a bit with the cold, and the matches have been early, but we are happy because today we achieved the result we wanted. We are in the final, and we remain very focused on winning the gold medal against Cuba tomorrow," said the world's number one, Mexican David Álvarez, after the matches.
