Friday, November 3rd, 2023.- In the most closely contested and thrilling match of the quarterfinals, the Chilean male's foil team (comprised of Leopoldo, Gustavo Alarcón, and Juvenal Alarcón) overcame the Argentine representative with a 45-43 victory this Friday, securing their spot in the semifinals.
At the Paralympic Center, the local fencing team had to overcome a challenging start, trailing by seven points in the first bout (8-1). It wasn't until the seventh relay that they managed to take the lead with a score of 31-30. The final match saw Gustavo Alarcón narrowly clinching the victory for the Chilean team.
"This was one of our goals, having already achieved it in the specific Pan American Championship. This result doesn't surprise us, but now we need to stay focused on the two matches ahead as we strive for the medal," commented Gustavo Alarcón.
Chile will seek to reach the gold medal final by facing the United States this afternoon, the defending champions who easily defeated Venezuela 45-25 in their series.
The other semi-final will feature Canada, who won 45-13 against Colombia, and Brazil, who secured a 45-34 victory over Mexico."
