Alysbeth Félix makes history for Puerto Rico in the heptathlon

With her silver medal at Santiago 2023, the Puerto Rican athlete became the first woman from her country to step onto the podium in athletics.

Thursday, November 2nd, 2023.- Alysbeth Félix finished second in the heptathlon, behind the American Erin Marsh (5,882 points). Her silver medal at Santiago 2023 is no ordinary achievement; it holds historical significance as she became the first woman from Puerto Rico to secure a medal in Pan American athletics, according to reports from her country.

"The first day (Wednesday) was extremely tough because of the cold and rainy weather, but this is a championship, and you fight for the medal, right? What's equal isn't an advantage, so the cold and rain affected everyone. It was about being consistent and mentally prepared. I enjoyed it, even though I didn't achieve my best performance," said the athlete, who finished with a score of 5,665.

She expressed her calmness and confidence in her work, saying, "I have been extremely calm and confident in my work, and that's how we achieved all of this. Perfect."

Regarding the challenges she faced during the event, she acknowledged, "The high jump was very difficult, completing the hurdles with wet feet that I could barely feel, and trying to jump was a bit tough, but we managed."
