Chileans up to date: female's 4x100 Relay Team Wins Pan American Silver

The local team also set a new Chilean record in the discipline, which had already been broken in the semifinals by the same athletes.

Thursday, November 2nd, 2023.- The Chilean team of Anaís Hernández, Martina Weil, Isidora Jiménez, and María Ignacia Montt secured the silver medal and a national record in the female's 4x100-meter relay in athletics at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago. With this achievement, Team Chile increased its medal count to 46.

In squash, a Pan American discipline since Mar del Plata 1995, the Chilean female's team advanced to the semifinals after defeating Mexican players Luz Domínguez and Diana Gasca. However, the Chilean pair couldn't overcome the Americans Olivia Fiechter and Amanda Sobhy, who won gold and silver in the individual competition, and settled for the Pan American bronze.

In sprint canoeing, taking place in the San Pedro de La Paz lagoon, Biobío Region, Chile qualified for two new finals. The duo of Fernanda Iracheta and Maira Toro will compete for medals in the female's K2 500 meters, while Michael Martínez will do so in the male's C1 1,000 meters.

Additionally, Team Chile kicked off its participation in golf at the 2023 Pan American Games with Joaquín Niemann and Guillermo "Mito" Pereira as key figures. The Chilean golfers finished in the top 10 of the standings on the first day of competition, which was interrupted for several hours due to rain at the Country Club de Príncipe de Gales in the La Reina commune. The activity will continue tomorrow with the second round of 18 holes starting at 8:00 p.m.

Unfortunately, Chile couldn't compete for the gold in female's hockey. The "Diablas" lost to the United States in a penalty shootout, with a final score of 3-1, after a 1-1 draw in regular time. The female's team will now vie for the bronze against Canada on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.

Finally, the male's basketball team will have to settle for playing for fifth place against the Dominican Republic. Chile's victory over Mexico today wasn't enough to advance based on point differential. Chile needed a seven-point difference to qualify but only managed to win by four points. The last game for Team Chile will be on Friday at 1:00 p.m.
