Canada also secures gold medal in shot put

Sarah Dawn Mitton secured the first place with a throw of 19.19 meters, surpassing the Dominican Rosa Angélica Ramírez and the American Adelaide Aquilla by a wide margin.

Thursday, November 2nd, 2023.- The female's shot put event crowned the Canadian Sarah Dawn Mitton with the Pan American gold medal at Santiago 2023, thanks to a throw of 19.19 meters.

This North American athlete adds this achievement to her list of accolades, where the most notable is the silver medal she obtained in the latest 2023 World Athletics Championships held in Budapest, Hungary.

In June of this year, she was crowned as the best in the Oslo Diamond League, with an initial throw of 19.54, defeating the American Maggie Ewen (19.52).

She also won the gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Her best record of this season is 19.58, while her personal best is 20.33.

With a difference of more than one meter from the new continental champion, the silver medal went to the representative of the Dominican Republic, Rosa Angélica Ramírez, with 17.99, while the bronze went to Adelaide Aquilla, from the United States, with a record of 17.73.

The highest-ranking Chilean in the final standings was Natalia Ducó, junior champion in Bydgoszcz 2008, bronze medalist in Toronto 2015, and an Olympic finalist in London 2012, who finished in seventh place with a throw of 16.58 meters.
