Thrusday, November 2nd.- The United States advanced to the final of female's field hockey by defeating Chile 3-1 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
The American team surprised “Las Diablas” with their tactical approach, coming out with strong offensive play that forced the Chilean players into a defensive posture.
In the second period, the United States took the lead with a goal from Ashley Sessa, who scored with a powerful shot in the area.
In the third period, “Las Diablas” began to regain control of the game, but couldn't convert their scoring opportunities. However, at the beginning of the final period, Denise Rojas Losada leveled the score with a short corner goal.
The finalist to compete for the gold medal against Argentina was determined in the penalty shootout, where Chile missed three of its four attempts, while the North American players converted their three goals.
With this victory, the United States returns to the field hockey final at the Pan American Games after eight years, rekindling the match played in Toronto 2015 when they defeated Argentina 2-1. The final will take place this Saturday, November 4th, at 7:45 p.m. in the Centro Deportivo de Hockey Césped at the Estadio Nacional.
Chile, on the other hand, will be seeking its second Pan American bronze medal (Guadalajara 2011) and will face Canada, whom they defeated 2-0 in the group stage of Santiago 2023.
