Cuba celebrates gold, and Chile, silver in the women's 4x100 relay

The local relay team not only secured an unprecedented second place but also set a new national record.

Thursday, November 2nd.- The Chilean female's 4x100 relay team brought joy to the crowd at the Estadio Nacional during the athletics event on Thursday by winning an unprecedented Pan American silver medal in the speed event.

Throughout the day, the quartet composed of Isidora Jiménez, Anaís Hernández, Martina Weil, and María Ignacia Montt set a new Chilean record for the event twice, with times of 44.35 seconds in the qualifying heat and 44.19 seconds in the final.

The unexpected medal for the host delegation, although it was anticipated after the heats that they would be in contention for a podium finish, somewhat overshadowed Cuba's remarkable performance, which secured a well-deserved gold with a time of 43.72 seconds.

The Cuban team of Laura Moreira, Enis Pérez, Yunisleidi García, and Yarima García had been considered favorites in the final, as they had earlier set the best times in the semifinals.

The bronze medal went to the Dominican Republic (44.32 seconds), led by the international standout Marileidy Paulino, along with Liranyi Alonso, Martha Méndez, and Anabel Medina. They were unable to surpass the Chilean team, which finished strongly with María Ignacia Montt, securing Chile's fifth medal in athletics at the Pan American Games.
