Brasil, Argentina, the USA, and Canada go for gold in water polo

The semifinalists have been determined in the men's category, where the favorites are still in the running.

Thursday, November 2nd, 2023.- A day of decisive matches took place at the National Stadium Aquatic Sports Center, where the names of the teams competing for gold in male's water polo were sealed.

The first team to secure their spot in the top four was Brazil, which defeated Cuba with a convincing 16-6 victory, with Pedro Vegara as the standout player, scoring four goals.

Next, the other South American powerhouse, Argentina, advanced to the semifinals by defeating Puerto Rico 20-9, with an inspired performance from Carlos Camnasio, who was the top scorer with five goals.

Immediately afterward, the day saw a big victory as the top gold medal contender, the United States, overwhelmed the local team Chile with a score of 28-2, with Ryder Dodd as the standout player with seven goals.

Finally, Canada secured a spot in the medal rounds by defeating Mexico 20-5, with Matthew Halajian as the most effective scorer with three goals.

On Friday, water polo action continues with Cuba vs. Mexico and Puerto Rico vs. Chile competing for fifth to eighth place, while Brazil faces Canada in the first semifinal. The day concludes with the match between Argentina and the United States.
