Argentina defeats Canada and seek to revalidate the female's field hockey gold

The “Leonas" were significantly superior to the Canadians and secured a commanding victory in the semi-finals.

Thursday, November 2nd, 2023.- Argentina continues its unstoppable run in field hockey. The "Leonas" have secured their place in the female’s final by defeating Canada 3-0 in the first semi-final of the discipline at Santiago 2023.

The match was heavily dominated by the Argentinian team, which maintained control of the game throughout, although they only managed to open the scoring and pull ahead in the second quarter.

Delfina Thome and Julieta Jankunas provided comfort to the "Leonas" by scoring the first two goals. Then, in the third quarter, Valentina Raposo scored Argentina's third goal from a short corner.

Argentina now awaits their opponent to defend the gold medal, a decision that will be determined between Chile and the United States. The final will take place on Saturday, November 4th, at 7:45 p.m. at Centro Deportivo de Hockey Césped del Estadio Nacional.

It's worth noting that Argentina and Canada had previously faced each other in the final of the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, where the "Leonas" won the gold medal with a 5-1 victory. In Santiago 2023, the Argentinian team once again emerged victorious, but this time in the semi-finals, and the Canadians will now compete for the bronze medal.
