Fencing: Brazil triumphs over Chile in female's foil team event

The victorious team advances to the semifinals, while the hosts will compete for secondary positions.

Thursday, November 2nd, 2023.- This time, the victory went to Brazil, as their female's foil team clinched the quarterfinal series against Chile with a score of 44-37 at the Pan American Games on Thursday.

The key to the match was in the third and fourth rounds, won by the Brazilians with scores of 5-1 and 5-0, respectively.

"We are both very well-rounded teams... We've known each other for a long time, and this time, we had to accept defeat. We have won on other occasions. We're disappointed with this stumble, but now we need to keep competing and representing our country. No matter what position, we will give it our all," commented local fencer Katina Proestakis, along with her teammates Arantza Inostroza and Lisa Montecinos.

Brazil will face off against the United States at 12:40 p.m., with the winner earning a spot in the gold medal match after the United States beat Peru convincingly with a score of 45-15.

The other semifinal will feature Mexico and Canada, who defeated Argentina (44-33) and Colombia (45-25), respectively.
