Wednesday, November 1st.- In the male's basketball competition at the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, Brazil secured a dominant victory over Chile in a game played at the Polideportivo 1 del Estadio Nacional.
The Brazilian national team secured a commanding 94-43 victory over the local team, a result that helps them take a significant step toward the medal rounds and leaves Chile in a challenging position for advancement.
Although Brazil is not yet mathematically assured of qualification, they only need to overcome Puerto Rico to secure their passage as group leaders. This same victory by Brazil is what Chile requires to have a chance to face Mexico and progress to the next phase.
Marcio da Costa, author of ten points in Brazil's victory, said after the game: "We proposed a strong game, especially in the first half. We worked on increasing the lead in the second half, and that eventually reflected on the scoreboard."
On the other hand, Chilean player Diego Silva expressed his disappointment over the loss: "The point difference hurts, and it doesn't reflect the work we've put in. Brazil is a powerhouse, they qualified for the last World Cup, and they have great, experienced players. They dominated us, I don't want to sugarcoat it."
"We have a final against Mexico, and we want to go all out. If we play like we did in the first half against Puerto Rico, I know we can win and advance. We need a seven-point difference, and we'll channel our energy into that. We're going for it," he concluded.
The Group B of male's basketball in Santiago 2023 will conclude on Friday, with Brazil facing Puerto Rico at 5:30 p.m., and Chile taking on Mexico at 8:00 p.m.
