Peruvian Diego Elías is two-time Pan American champion in male's squash

The athlete won the final against Colombian Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, repeating in Santiago 2023 the gold he achieved in Lima 2019.

Wednesday, November 1st.- Peru celebrated another gold in Santiago 2023 on Wednesday thanks to Diego Elías, who became a two-time Pan American champion in male's squash by defeating Colombian Miguel Ángel Rodríguez in the final.

The Peruvian athlete won with scores of 11-4, 7-11, 11-5, and 11-4, repeating the achievement from Lima 2019, and once again against the same opponent in the final.

Elías, visibly moved by the victory, said, "I am happy to defend the title here in Santiago. It's my second Pan American medal, and it's truly a dream come true. I don't know how to explain it. I feel good, incredible, and happy with this medal."

"The truth is that the pressure has been quite intense in these Pan American Games. It has been tough, so now I am more relaxed and can enjoy this victory," added the Peruvian.

On the female's side, American Olivia Fiechter emerged victorious, winning 4-11, 6-11, 11-6, 11-5, and 11-6 against her compatriot Amanda Sobhy.

With Elías' gold, Peru climbed to the eighth position in the medal standings, matching Chile's eight gold medals. However, the Peruvian team has a total of 24 medals, while the Chileans have 43 medals.
