Wednesday, November 1st.- Brazilian Renan Correa, at just 19 years old, posted the best time in the three qualifying heats of the 200 meters at Santiago 2023 and qualified for the grand final, which will take place this Thursday (local time 8:10 p.m.) at the Estadio Nacional.
The athlete, the current Pan American Sub-20 champion, had a close race (in the third heat) with the former world runner-up (2009), Panamanian Alonso Edward, both of whom qualified for the medal race.
The South American athlete recorded a time of 20.39 seconds, while the Central American athlete clocked 21.04 seconds.
Also advancing were the recent Pan American gold medalist in the 100 meters, Dominican José Alnardo González (20.81 seconds), Nadale Buntin of St. Kitts and Nevis (20.97 seconds), and Emanuel Archibald of Guyana (21.08 seconds), all in the first heat.
In the second qualifying heat, the winner was the three-time Colombian champion, Carlos Andrés Palacios (21.11 seconds), followed by the current Central American and Caribbean champion in the 200 meters, Canadian Callum Robinson (21.16 seconds), and Kyle Greaux of Trinidad and Tobago (21.27 seconds).
Chilean Enzo Faulbaum ran in the first heat and only managed a third-place finish with a time of 21.55 seconds.
