Wednesday, November 1st.- Deanna Price, former world champion, claimed the gold medal in the hammer throw event held at the Coliseo Central del Estadio Nacional during the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

The American athlete from Saint Charles, Missouri, lived up to her previous achievements, including the world title in Doha 2019, with a throw of 72.34 meters to secure the Pan American gold medal. This victory marked a great season for her, as she had previously won a silver medal at the World Championships in Budapest.

The second-best throw came from the experienced Rosa Andreína Rodríguez, who achieved a distance of 71.59 meters. The Venezuelan athlete earned her third Pan American medal with this performance, having previously won gold in Toronto 2015 and bronze in Lima 2019, but she fell short of defending her title.

The bronze medal was awarded to the Canadian athlete Kaila Butler, who had a throw of 65.10 meters, though she was considerably behind the top two competitors.

Chile's Mariana de Jesús García finished in fifth place with a throw of 62.74 meters. She initially held the third position until the third round of throws but was later overtaken by Butler and the Colombian athlete Mayra Gaviria, who finished fourth with a throw of 64.42 meters.

One surprising moment during the rainy day was the early elimination of the American athlete Brooke Andersen, the reigning world champion in 2022, who failed to register successful throws in all three of her attempts.
