Chile adds another bronze in fencing with Analía Fernández

The Chilean athlete fell to the Argentine María De Las Mercedes Di Tella in the semifinals of the female's individual epee, having to settle for the bronze medal in Santiago 2023.

Wednesday, November 1st.- Chile added another bronze in fencing at the 2023 Pan American Games in Santiago after Analía Fernández fell in the semifinals of the female's individual epee against the Argentine María De Las Mercedes Di Tella.

The Chilean athlete lost 15-11 to the Argentine at Centro de Deportes Paralímpicos del Estadio Nacional, missing the chance to compete for the gold medal in this fencing category.

Despite falling short of reaching the final, Fernández expressed her excitement after the match, saying, "I'm happy. It's the first Pan American medal I've won and the most significant achievement of my career. It's something I've always dreamed of, and what's better than achieving it with my family here. I took it step by step in this tournament, trying to stay as focused as possible."


"We are strong for the team competition. It's something we've been preparing for a long time, and I hope we can win a medal. We believe we can do it," added the Chilean in anticipation of the upcoming events in these Pan American Games.

To conclude, Fernández stated, "This achievement is gratifying. I'm happy because it has been many years of hard work to get here. This is a dream come true."

With this medal, Chile has a total of 41 medals and ranks seventh in the medal tally, with seven golds, 19 silvers, and 15 bronzes at Santiago 2023.
