Fencing: Argentina's Di Tella defeats world’s number three and dreams of gold

The Argentine fencer won a close 15-13 victory against Brazil's Nathalie Moellhausen, ranked as the third-best athlete in the world, in the quarter-finals of the female's individual epee. In the semi-finals, she will face Chilean Analía Fernández, ensuring both of them at least a bronze medal.

Wednesday, November 1st.- A tremendous duel took place on Wednesday afternoon at the Centro de Deportes Paralímpicos del Estadio Nacional, where fencing competitions are being held. The Argentine fencer Isabel Di Tella secured a narrow 15-13 victory over the Brazilian Nathalie Moellhausen.

The remarkable achievement of the Argentine fencer is that she defeated the world's number three in the female's individual epee category in the quarter-finals. Wins of 3-2 and 5-3 in the first period were enough to withstand the late stages of the match and seal her victory.

With this win, Di Tella secures her place in the semi-finals, where she will face Chile's Analía Fernández, guaranteeing both of them at least a bronze medal. The local athlete advanced to this stage by defeating Mexico's María Fernanda Morales in the quarterfinals with a score of 15-12.


In the male's individual sabre category, the American Andrew Doddo is the favorite to claim the top spot, as he is ranked 20th in the International Fencing Federation rankings. In the semifinals, he will face the Canadian Shaul Gordon.

Roberto Monsalva, a representative of Team Chile who reached the quarterfinals after defeating Enrico Grisolia, suffered a clear defeat against the Venezuelan Eliecer Romero with a score of 15-4.
