Male’s basketball: Venezuela defeats the Dominican Republic in overtime

The South Americans triumphed with a narrow 92-90 victory over the Caribbeans, who seemed to have the win secured with 10 seconds left in regular time.

Wednesday, November 1st.- In the second game of the Wednesday session of the Pan American male's basketball, Venezuela narrowly defeated the Dominican Republic 92-90 at Polideportivo 1 del Estadio Nacional.

The game was highly thrilling, to the point that it was decided in a five-minute overtime period after they tied at 81 points in the four regular quarters. The most notable play was a basket by Néstor Colmenares with 10 seconds left in regular time to tie the game.

All of this followed Dominican dominance in the first two quarters, with scores of 19-18 and 19-14, respectively. Venezuela then won the next two quarters 30-26 and 19-17. The overtime was won by the Venezuelans with a tight 11-9 score.

The top scorers for the South Americans were Garly Sojo and Néstor Colmenares, each with 21 points. The standout scorer for the Central Americans was Jassel Pérez with 22 points.

It's worth noting that in the first game of the session, also in Group A, the Argentine team defeated Panama 85-77. The day in male's basketball continues with the matches Puerto Rico-Mexico, for Group B starting at 5:30 p.m., and Brazil-Chile, also in Group B, at 8:00 p.m.
