Male Football: Uruguay Achieves 5th Place by Beating Colombia

The Uruguayan team secured fifth place in male's football at the Pan American Games by defeating Colombia in a dramatic penalty shootout after a goalless draw in regular time.

Wednesday, November 1st.- On Wednesday, the match took place at the Estadio Elías Figueroa Brander in Valparaíso. The fifth-place playoff of the Pan American Games saw Uruguay emerge victorious over Colombia in a nail-biting penalty shootout.

After a goalless draw during regular time, the match proceeded to a penalty shootout, in which both teams started confidently, successfully converting their respective spot-kicks.

Jairo O’Neil, Dylan Nandín, Juan Cruz de los Santos, and Joaquín Lavega were responsible for contributing to Uruguay's tally, while Brahian Palacios, Juan Castillo, and Johan Rojas did the same for Colombia.

Eventually, Uruguay had the first opportunity to clinch the match after goalkeeper Facundo Machado saved a penalty from Colombian player Luis Mosquera. The final decisive penalty kick was taken by Rodrigo Piñeiro, a forward for Unión Española, but he hit the ball squarely against the crossbar, leading to an extended penalty shootout.

Finally, Daniel Ruiz, a player for Millonarios Fútbol Club, stepped up to the ball in an attempt to force an error on the Uruguayan side, but once again, goalkeeper Machado made a remarkable save, securing the victory for his team.
