Female Water Polo: Chile comes close but loses to Puerto Rico

After tough losses in the first two matches against the United States and Brazil, the local team improved significantly but still narrowly lost 14-12. They will now face Canada in the quarter-finals.

Wednesday, November 1st.- In the final match of the female's water polo competition's first phase, Puerto Rico defeated Chile 14-12, securing their first victory in the tournament. The local team, on the other hand, suffered their third consecutive defeat but showed significant improvement compared to their first two games, in which they were defeated by the United States and Brazil, respectively.

The match at the Centro Acuático del Estadio Nacional was closely contested throughout. The first and third quarters ended in a 4-4 tie, while Puerto Rico won the second and final quarters 3-2 to secure their 14-12 victory.

With this result, the positions in Group B were determined, with the United States finishing on top, followed by Brazil, Puerto Rico, and Chile. In Group A, Canada claimed the top spot, with Argentina, Cuba, and Mexico following.

All eight teams will advance to the quarter-finals, so the group stage served to establish the pairings: the United States will face Mexico, Canada will play against Chile, Argentina will take on Puerto Rico, and Brazil will meet Cuba.
