Table Tennis: Cuba and Brazil vie for the gold medal in male's singles

Andy Pereira and Hugo Calderano will compete for the top spot at the Pan American Games at the CEO in Ñuñoa.

Wednesday, November 1st.- Cuba's Andy Pereira and Brazil's Hugo Calderano advanced to the male's singles final of table tennis at the Pan American Games on Wednesday.

As a result, they will compete for the gold medal at Santiago 2023 at the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico (CEO) in Ñuñoa starting at 6:30 p.m.

First, Andy Pereira defeated Canadian Eugene Wang in the semi-finals in five sets with scores of 11-8, 11-5, 11-9, 7-11, and 12-10, in 42 minutes of play.

Then, Hugo Calderano defeated Mexican Marcos Madrid in five sets with scores of 11-8, 11-7, 11-8, 9-11, and 11-5, in 36 minutes.

In the early hours, the finalists in the female's singles were determined.

They are Puerto Rican Adriana Díaz (who defeated Canadian Mo Zhang in seven tight sets, with scores of 11-13, 11-5, 11-7, 7-11, 11-9, 11-13, and 11-6, after 49 minutes of play) and Brazilian Bruna Takahashi (who overcame American Lily Ann Zhang in four sets with scores of 14-12, 11-5, 11-8, and 11-5 in 28 minutes).

Both will compete for the gold medal starting at 5:00 p.m. this Wednesday.
