Basque pelota: Chilean Zita Solas Defeats Costa Rican María Araya

The local delegation athlete secured a two-set victory at the Estadio Español during the Pan American Games.

Wednesday, November 1st.- In the second day of Basque pelota competition at the Pan American Games, Chilean Zita Solas defeated the Costa Rican representative, María Araya, with a score of two sets to zero in the frontball discipline.

The match took place at the Estadio Español and ended with scores of 12-5 and 12-2 after 22 minutes of gameplay. This marks the second victory for the Chilean delegation in the tournament, following Renato Bolelli's walkover win against Bolivian Carlos Miranda in the rubber paddle discipline on Tuesday.

"I'm very happy with this result because I played with a lot of confidence. I will keep fighting, and my next challenge is to face the world champion, the Mexican Itzel Reyes. It's going to be tough, but I'm realistic, taking it one step at a time. The beautiful thing is that I've received a lot of support," stated the Chilean athlete.

It's worth mentioning that on Tuesday, during the first day of Basque pelota competition at Santiago 2023, Zita Solas was defeated by the Argentinian Micaela Cortez with a score of 12-8, 6-12, and 7-4 after 56 minutes of play.

Zita Solas' next match at the Pan American Games will take place this Thursday at 09:00 a.m. against the Mexican Itzel Reyes.
