Speed Canoeing: Chile Qualifies for Two Finals

The duo of Marcelo Godoy and Camilo Valdés will compete for medals in the male's K2 500 meters, while María José Maillard will do the same in the female's C1 200m. Ysumi Orellana will be in the semifinals of the female's K1 500m.

Wednesday, November 1st.- Chile secured its spot in the medal contention in two of the speed canoeing categories during Wednesday's competition at Santiago 2023, after the first qualifying races were held on the San Pedro de La Paz lagoon (approximately 450 kilometers from Santiago). This was achieved as Marcelo Godoy and Camilo Valdés qualified for the final in the male's K2 500 meters, and María José Maillard did the same in the female's C1 200m.

On the other hand, Ysumi Orellana will compete in the semifinals of the female's K1 500m, where she will be aiming to advance to the final.

Godoy and Camilo Valdés finished second in their heat, behind the Canadians Simon Mctavis and Ian Gaudet. The same happened with Maillard, who was behind the Cuban Yarisleidis Cirilo. However, the Chilean, who will also participate in the C2 500 meters, mentioned that she chose to be cautious due to unfavorable weather conditions on the lagoon.

On Wednesday, the semifinals for male and female's K1 500m and female's C1 200m will take place.

On Thursday, the elimination rounds and semifinals for male's K1 and C1 1,000m, and female's K2 500m will be held.
