Tuesday, October 31th, 2023.- Chile closed out the Tuesday session of male’s handball at Santiago 2023 with a solid victory, defeating Mexico 32-21 in Group A.
The local team, which began with a win against the Dominican Republic with a score of 30-21, maintained their winning pace against the North Americans at the Gimnasio Polideportivo de Viña del Mar, with a shooting accuracy of 71% in front of the opponent's goal.
With this victory, Chile secured its place in the semifinals and keeps its goal of improving its performance in Lima 2019 alive, where they had to settle for the silver medal after losing in the final to Argentina.
Aitor Etxaburu, the coach of the Chilean team, stated after the game, "It was a bit clunky on our part, with too much anxiety and not much control at times. We need to try to correct that, play a bit more calmly and organized."
"It's complicated because the crowd pushes a lot, and the players want to perform well. We need to find a balance. The goal is to win every game. We don't know how far that will take us. My wish is to win the gold, we know it's challenging, so we have to take it day by day," the Spaniard concluded.
As a result, Chile and Brazil, which won against the Dominican Republic in the afternoon, will face each other on Wednesday starting at 8:00 p.m. to determine who qualifies as the first-placed team in the group for the semi-finals.
