Tuesday, October 31th, 2023.- Cuban Yunisleidy García became the star of female sprinting at the Santiago2023 Pan American Games by winning the 100-meter race with a time of 11.36 seconds.
The islander, who had just set a new national record in the same discipline, confirmed her excellent form with a flawless performance on the track at the Estadio Nacional.
The silver medal went to Jasmine Abrams from Guyana (11.52 seconds), while the bronze was claimed by Raquel Ahye from Trinidad and Tobago (11.53 seconds), demonstrating a dominance by Central American competitors in the 100 meters.
Thanks to Abrams' silver, Guyana achieved a historic and unprecedented medal for the country at the Pan American Games. Shortly thereafter, the nation celebrated another success as Emanuel Archibald secured the bronze medal in the male 100 meters.
In Wednesday's athletics events, the highlights include the female finals in hammer throw, 100-meter hurdles, and 400 meters, as well as the male finals in the 110-meter hurdles and 400 meters.
