Pan American sailing competition to define their participants in the medal race

Weather conditions improved in the waters of the central coast after a couple of days with interruptions in the competition.

Tuesday, October 31th, 2023.- The sailing competition at the Pan American Games in Playa El Quisco and Playa Algarrobo, is well underway. After a couple of days of disruptions due to weather, conditions have improved, allowing the competition to proceed as planned.

On the fourth day of competition, the weather was excellent with a sunny day, an average wind speed of 12 knots from the south, and calm seas. This allowed the Race Committee to complete the entire program for the day.

In the Sunfish category, both male and female competed, and the Chilean Diego González maintained his lead in the male's category with 10 points. He is closely followed by the Canadian Lee Parkhill and the Peruvian Jean Paul de Trazegnies, both with 11 points.

In the female's Sunfish category, the Peruvian sailor Catherina Romero continued her dominant performance, securing her sixth consecutive victory with just 5 points. Philipine Van Aanholt from Aruba and María José Poncell from Chile are in second and third place with 12 and 13 points, respectively.

In the Snipe class, the Chilean team of Matías and Constanza Seguel took the lead with 11 points, surpassing the Argentine team of Julio Alsogaray and Malena Sciarra, who have the same points but not a better partial than the Chileans. The third position is held by the team of Pablo Defazio and Dominique Knuppel with 16 points.

In IQ Foil, Maria Belén Bazo from Peru is leading in the female's category with 16 points. Mariana Aguilar from Mexico and Dominique Stater from the United States follow closely with 32 points each. In the male's IQ Foil category, Ethan Westera from Aruba is leading with 28 points, followed by Noa Lyons from the United States with 28 points and Matheus Granham from Brazil with 32 points.

In ILCA 7, Stefano Peschiera is at the top of the leaderboard with 11 points, followed by the Argentine Francisco Guaragna with 17 points, and the Chilean Clemente Seguel with the same number of points.

Erika Reineka from the United States is leading the ILCA 6 category with 6 points. She is followed by Sarah Douglas from Canada with 8 points and Luciana Cardozo from Argentina with 16 points.

The Lightning category is currently led by the United States team consisting of Allan Terhune Jr, Madeline Balldrige, and Sarah Chin, with 7 points. Chile, with Felipe Robles, Carmina Malsh, and Paula Herman, is in second place with 11 points, and Canada, with Douglas Ramsay, Jessica Joyce, and Rachel Green, is in third place with 14 points.

In the Nacra 17 category, the Argentine team of Mateo Majdalani and Eugenia Bosco is leading with 4 points, followed by the American team of Sarah Newberry and David Liebenberg with 9 points and the Brazilian team of Samuel Reis and Gabriela Nicolino with 13 points.

The Fórmula Kite category, held at Playa El Quisco, saw the Brazilian Bruno Chaves leading in the male's category after 12 races. He is followed by the Antillean Tiger Tyson and the American Markus Edegran. In the female's category, Daniela Moroz from the United States is in the lead with 10 points, followed by Mariah Millen with 12 points.

The preliminary and qualifying competitions will continue until the end of the week, and the medal race will take place on Saturday. The top five competitors in each category will advance to the medal race.
