Brazil Dominates the First Day of the Equestrian Show Jumping Competition

Marlon Zanotelli, a double gold medalist at Lima 2019, secured the top spot in the first individual competition, while in the team event, the Brazilians are leading, followed by Colombia and Canada. Chile is currently in seventh place.

Tuesday, October 31th, 2023.- Following the first day of competition at the Regimiento Granaderos de Quillota, Brazil is dominating the equestrian jumping event at Santiago 2023, holding the first position in both the individual and team categories.

Marlon Zanotelli, a double gold medalist at Lima 2019 (in the individual and team events), successfully began his defense of the Pan American titles by winning the individual competition without any faults in 72.87 seconds. His compatriot Pedro Veniss, Colombian rider René López, Mexican rider Eugenio Garza, and Canadian rider Amy Millar followed behind.

The top-performing Chilean riders were Jorge Matte and Agustín Covarrubias, finishing in the 19th and 20th positions, respectively.

In the team competition (which combines the scores of the four riders from each country), Brazil is leading, followed by Colombia and Canada.

Further down the rankings are Argentina, the United States, Mexico, Chile, Uruguay, and Ecuador.

The second test will take place on Wednesday, after which the team medalists will be determined. In the individual category, the top performers will advance to the final round on Friday, where the Pan American medalists will be decided.

The Santiago 2023 show jumping competition offers three team spots for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, but Brazil has already qualified. If Brazil finishes in the top three, the list will be adjusted accordingly.
