Tuesday, October 31th, 2023.- Chile suffered its second defeat in the table tennis semifinals of Santiago 2023 and settled for another Pan American bronze, this time in the female's doubles. Earlier on Monday, the local team had already lost in the mixed doubles category.
In today's matches, Daniela Ortega and Paulina Vega couldn't match the experience of the North Americans Rachel Sung and Amy Wang, who secured victory with a score of four sets to two, advancing to the gold medal match at Santiago 2023.
After a closely contested first set, which the Americans won 12-10, the duos took turns controlling each game, reaching the fourth set with a tie. However, from that point on, Sung and Wang increased the speed and power of their shots, creating a gap over the local team, eventually closing the match with scores of 12-10, 5-11, 11-6, 5-11, 11-6, and 11-3.
As a result, the North Americans will compete for the regional title against the standout duo of the competition, the Brazilian sisters Giulia and Bruna Takahashi, who defeated the Cuban sisters Adriana and Melanie Díaz with a score of 4-1.
