Basque Pelota Kicks Off at Santiago 2023

With four different disciplines, the sport of Basque Pelota, of Spanish origin, marked the beginning of its competitions at the Estadio Español venue. Mexico is considered the top contender for the gold medal.

Tuesday, October 31th, 2023.- The Basque Pelota action started early, and the first encounters in the frontball discipline resulted in a double triumph for the Mexicans. The Argentinian teams also achieved the same result by defeating Chile in both the male and female's categories.

Zita Solas and Gonzalo Fouilloux suffered defeats in their individual matches, leaving the host nation without a victory in their group so far.

In the 30-meter fronton, Chile has secured at least a chance to compete for the bronze medal. Renato Bolleli, the local representative, achieved his first win without even playing as his opponent, the Bolivian Carlos Miranda, did not compete due to injury.

The day's schedule includes the trinquete (doubles in the 30-meter fronton), where Daniel García and Arturo Rodríguez from Mexico promise to aim for the top of the podium.

This is how the days will unfold in the Las Condes commune with Basque Pelota, one of the last sports to kick off at Santiago 2023.
