Monday, October 30th, 2023.- The long-awaited sixth gold medal for Team Chile came in athletics at the end of the 11th day, specifically in the discus throw, where Lucas Nervi secured the gold medal.
Chilean athlete Lucas Nervi, with a throw of 63.39 meters, excelled in the discipline and stood atop the podium in an exciting finish.
The day for Chile began with a silver medal won by Rafael Cortez in surfing, competing in the longboard category, where he lost the final to Peruvian Benoit Clemente.
Next up was judo, which delivered two silver medals. Thomas Briceño was the first, losing to Canada's Shady Elnahas by ippon in the -100 kg category. Francisco Solís had a similar outcome in the +100 kg category, losing to Cuban Andy Granda.
In fencing, Pablo Núñez secured the silver medal in the individual épée final, losing 15-12 to Canadian Dylan French.
In table tennis, the Chilean duo of Paulina Vega and Nicolás Burgos had to settle for the bronze medal after a close match against Cuba, which ended 4-3.
Another standout performance from Team Chile on this day was the advancement of Las Diablas to the semifinals, where they will face the United States in their quest for gold.
Chilean table tennis player of Chinese origin, Zeng Zhiying, made her Pan American Games debut with a victory over Dominican Eva Brito Peña, despite being 57 years old. The final score was 7-11, 5-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-5, and 11-8.
Another noteworthy achievement came from athlete Martina Weil, who recorded the fastest time in the semifinals of the female's 400 meters (51.07 seconds) and advanced to the final.
In the decathlon, the Chilean-Cuban athlete Santiago Ford is in second place with 4,084 points, just behind the American Samuel Black, who leads with 4,160 points.
In team sports, Chile's participation in male's handball began on this day. In Group A, they defeated the Dominican Republic with a score of 30-21.
At the end of the day, the volleyball team also made its debut, winning 3-1 against the Dominican Republic.
